Q&A: Help for a runny nose

17 August, 2011

Q – I seem to have a runny nose all year round. In the summer it’s hayfever and in the winter it’s because of colds. What can you suggest?

A – A runny nose or rhinitis may be caused by a wide range of allergens from house dust to food additives, it is often a symptom of hayfever. Elderflower tea is a mild decongestant that will help to clear the nose, it is also pleasant tasting. In the winter you could add a few drops of elderberry tincture to boost the immune system and help ward off colds, in the summer you could add eyebright tincture to help relieve the symptoms of hayfever.
