Q&A: Hard to treat cystitis

17 August, 2011

Q – I keep getting cystitis. This has been treated with antibiotics several times, but it keeps coming back. Can you suggest an alternative treatment?

A – Once cystitis gets established it can keep returning and be very troublesome. Drinking cranberry juice every day can help some people get rid of it from the system. You could also try taking a good probiotic, such as acidophilus tablets, for several months. This will help to rebalance the intestinal flora that when out of balance can lead to recurrent infections such as cystitis and then are further damaged by taking antibiotics, setting up a problematic cycle of re-infection. As soon as any symptoms develop take a combination of the tinctures of couchgrass, marshmallow herb and cornsilk three times a day and continue until the symptoms have completely gone.
