Q&A: Work stress is too much

17 August, 2011

Q – I am under a lot of stress at work at the moment. Is there anything I can take that will help me out?

A – All of us will go through a stressful patch at some point in our lives and there is a lot that natural medicine can do to help us through these times. Prolonged stress can do a lot of damage to the adrenal glands and kidneys in particular so steps should be taken to resolve the situation if it looks like becoming a long-term situation.

Taking a good B vitamin complex supplement will help to alleviate some of the symptoms and also protect our body from some of the damage that living under stress can do.

Certain herbal tinctures have the effect of strengthening the nervous system and helping to lift the spirits as well as relieve symptoms of stress such as insomnia, anxiety, irritability or tiredness. Try a combination of damiana, lemon balm, skullcap and vervain as an infusion or by taking the combined tinctures three times a day.

Aromatherapy massage has the double benefit of therapeutic massage from a caring therapist and also the beneficial properties of the essential oils which can help relieve many symptoms of stress. Consult a qualified aromatherapist for best results.
